Nuclear Spin-wave Quantum Register for a Rare-earth Ion Qubit

We implement a nuclear spin-wave quantum register for optically-addressable 171 Yb 3+ qubits in YVO 4 using a local ensemble of 51 V 5+ lattice ions. This quantum memory is a critical demonstration for future rare-earth ion-based quantum repeater networks.
