Summary: | The construction of a tidal gate on Yongjiang could bring certain social and economic benefits by blocking sea water and storing fresh water, but a serial of problems on sediment silting, water eutrophication, and the reduction of aquatic organism, especially the serious negative impacts of sediment silting on flood control and water draining, marine navigation as well as the current available ports will occur. Together with the consideration resulted from the advance of coastal line, earth surface sinking and Sea surface rising, it is better not to build the tidal gate on Yongjiang River. |
