Summary:Multilevel inverterconfigurations are prospective candidates for synthesis of high voltages and are suited for driving of traction motors as the stresses on switches are minimal and harmonic distortions also get reduced. In a multilevel topologydesired output power is achieved using a series of power semiconductor switches fed with several lower voltage DC sources of variouscapacities. In this paper a pulse width modulated cascaded multilevel inverter for high power traction applications is modeled and analyzed.
