Electromagnetic surface waves in mixed media

TM surface waves on an interface between semiconductors, ferrites or artificial dielectrics are considered. The normalised phase coefficient, /spl beta//k/sub 0/, is calculated for a range of values for the two media, first with (/spl epsiv//sub r1/ = 1, /spl mu//sub r1/ = 1) and then with (/spl eps...

Summary:TM surface waves on an interface between semiconductors, ferrites or artificial dielectrics are considered. The normalised phase coefficient, /spl beta//k/sub 0/, is calculated for a range of values for the two media, first with (/spl epsiv//sub r1/ = 1, /spl mu//sub r1/ = 1) and then with (/spl epsiv//sub r1/ = 1, /spl mu//sub r1/ = -1) assuming -5 < /spl mu//sub r2///spl mu//sub r1/ < 5, -5 < /spl epsiv//sub r2///spl epsiv//sub r1/ < 0. This range of parameters includes some "double negative" cases for the second medium. Dispersion diagrams are presented for the case where region I is an artificial magnetic dielectric and region 2 is a semiconductor plasma. The results have implications for the design of miniature passive components.
