Summary:Co-sputtered platinum-iridium films were deposited and tested as catalysts for an application in hydrogen fuel cells. The morphological and electrochemical investigation of samples with different ratios of both metals revealed that by systematic varying of the components content it is possible to obtain PtIr alloy with optimal composition ensuring high catalytic activity at reduced noble metal loading. Among the tested samples the Pt 14 Ir 86 is the most promising candidate for the oxygen reduction reaction.
