Summary:The transcriptional frequencies of different genes are distinct. The structures of promoter sequences may be one of the causes leading to such distinction. In this paper, the promoters of yeast genes are divided into several groups according to certain principles and lowly-transcribed gene promoters are taken as a control set. The difference between sequence structure of promoters of genes with higher transcriptional frequencies and that of control set is analyzed based on the similarity measure. It is found that there is a linear positive correlation between the promoter sequence structure of genes and transcriptional frequencies. In general, the greater the difference of the transcriptional frequencies of genes, the more the difference of their promoter sequence structures. Our studies can helpful for us to understand the promoter structures of yeast genes and transcriptional regulation mechanism of eukaryotic genes well.
