Summary:This paper presents a low cost but high power density tubular linear switch reluctance generator (TLSRG) with ring segments for Direct Drive Marine Wave Energy Conversion (WEC). The ring segments are both magnetically and electrically isolated with each other increasing the capability of flux carrying and the power density. The performance characteristics at generator mode are discussed in this paper, validating that the presented TLSRG is a good alternative candidate to PM tubular generator for WEC.
