Summary:The proliferation and rapid evolution of wireless communication systems have forced the birth of products that includes several standards into a single device. One of the approaches in the development of such multi-standard devices is to design specialized blocks with reconfigurable capabilities. In this work we propose a new reconfigurable interleaver block, capable to implement any of the interleaving operation defined in the 802.11a, 802.11n, 802.16e & Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) wireless standards. The proposed Multi Standard Interleaver architecture achieves a reduction of silicon area and power consumption when compared with current approaches. The proposed architecture has also the capability to embrace new interleaver definitions that might be defined in upcoming new communication standards.
