Summary:Many researches are currently addressing issues of optimizing the groundwater extraction systems, including the pumping equipment. One of the problems is that the flow rate extracted from the well must be smaller or equal to the optimum well flow rate, which is determined from hydrogeological studies, in order to avoid the rapid clogging of the well. A recent study proposed a methodology to model the adjustment of water level in the wells subsequent to flow variation using the EPANET software. Unfortunately, it pointed out major instabilities in the variable water levels and, consequently, in the extracted flow rate. This contribution investigates the use of the hydraulic model implemented in WDNetXL/WDNetGIS software platforms to overcome such instabilities. Results demonstrate that model prediction are rather stable and consistent with previous simulations, even in face of different representations of underground hydrodynamic conditions, thus being promising in supporting sustainable operations of well fields.
