Mitigation of Nonlinear Distortions in a mm Wave OFDM Photonic Link Employing Digital Signal Pre-Processing

Summary:In this paper, a digital pre-distortion algorithm based on Memory Polynomials (MP) is used to mitigate the nonlinearities of millimeter-wave (mmWave) Orthogonal Division Multiplexed (OFDM) Radio over Fiber (RoF) system. We focus on optically generated mmWave broadband OFDM signals by optical heterodyning of the two phase correlated optical carriers. We successfully decreased the impact of the system nonlinearities by achieving Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) improvement of 6 dB at the FEC limit for a 5 Gbit/s OFDM signal with 64 subcarriers and increase the spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) of the system by 2 dB.
