Intra-Operator Inter-Mode Spectrum Sharing

Summary:A new method for spectrum sharing for a single operator is presented. One operator with its frequency band divided into three bands is assumed: one central band for the TDD mode and two more in the sides for the up and downlink of the FDD mode. The idea is to share resources between these bands, when required. Two different approaches are proposed: block-wise sharing approach, where a fixed block of frequencies can belong to either TDD or FDD, depending on the necessities; and tunable carrier frequency approach, where the exact bandwidth to be transferred is previously calculated. The fresh results give the industry and regulatory bodies a good reference for spectrum management schemes towards future IMT-A systems.
