Summary:Based on virtual reality technology, a friendly human-computer interaction interface and virtual machining environment were programmed by using Visual C++ and OpenGL. Taken sphere as basic shape of abrasive grain and distributed it randomly on the wheel base, then the model of virtual grinding wheel was built. Mathematic model of interference between abrasive grain and workpiece was built. Surface grinding processes with different machining parameters were simulated dynamically, thus grinding performance of virtual grinding wheel was evaluated. The results show that the simulation could basically reflect the variation of workpiece surface profile. So the simulation process could be used as a complemental method to forecast surface roughness in actual abrasive machining.
