Summary:Photonic crystal fibers, optical fibers with regular structure of micro-holes running along the axial direction, have ability to change their optical properties through inserting different materials into their holes. In this paper we present influence of an external electric field on propagation properties of microstructured photonic crystal fibers filled with nematic liquid crystals i.e. Photonic Liquid Crystal Fibers (PLCFs) and we discuss possibilities of using PLCFs in electric field sensing and measurement applications.
