Summary:This paper describes investigation of frequency domain traveling wave fault location methods and consists from two parts. The first part researches how variation of fault and ground resistivity, location of close faults, length of available record affects accuracy of one-ended and double-ended fault location methods. The second part is devoted to development of the new modification of frequency domain routine - two-stage routine, where fault location information is extracted from initiating (until opening of the circuit breakers) as well as from clearing (from CB opening to elimination of the secondary arc) stages of fault. Field testing of the frequency domain method and analytical study of traveling waves for initiation stage of fault clearing are described.
