A new wavelet based algorithm for estimating respiratory motion rate using UWB radar

UWB signals have become attractive for their particular advantage of having narrow pulse width which makes them suitable for remote sensing of vital signals. Summary:UWB signals have become attractive for their particular advantage of having narrow pulse width which makes them suitable for remote sensing of vital signals. In this paper a novel approach to estimate periodic motion rates, using ultra wide band (UWB) signals is proposed. The proposed algorithm which is based on wavelet transform is used as a non-contact tool for measurement of respiration motion rate. Compared with traditional contact measurement devices, experimental results utilizing a 3.2 GHz bandwidth transceiver, demonstrate 99% similar results. The standard deviation of the proposed algorithm for 30 independent experiments has obtained 19% for respiration motion.
