Summary:This study deals with low speed high torque machines for direct drive. Two novel structures of Doubly Salient Permanent Magnet Machine (DSPM) characterized by small stator mutual inductances are presented. The stator phases of the first structure are practically independent, but the machine develops an important cogging torque. The second structure reduces simultaneously the mutual inductances and the cogging torque values.
