Summary:Zeros and poles of IIR digital filters, whose coefficients have finite bit width, cannot occupy an arbitrary position in the z-plane. The paper studies the process of forming the geometric place of zeros and poles in such conditions. It is taken into consideration that the zeros and poles are elements of the set of algebraic numbers of the corresponding degree. The process under consideration is interpreted as the sampling of the z-plane.
