Summary:A new electrolytic galvanizing line, all bridles, loopers and reels of which are driven by adjustable speed AC motors, began its commercial operation successfully in February 1984. In order to apply vector-controlled AC motors to the bridles and reels of the galvanizing line, accurate torque control and small torque ripple of the motors has to be achieved. In this paper, the type of inverters, the secondary resistance compensation, torque ripple elimination, an evaluation of the torque ripple on the surface of the galvanized steel strip and actual performance of the drives. are described. In addition, the automatic operation system including the galvanizing DC current control is reported.
