Summary:The study of the properties of corrugated surface and dielectric sheet antennas was limited in this paper to the ascertainment and development of means for control of the parameters which govern the efficiency of the feed in launching the dominant surface wave onto the corrugated or dielectric surface. A qualitative description of the mechanism of the feed interaction with the radiating surface was hypothesized, and strong experimental evidence for support of the hypothesis was obtained. Two very successful feeds were then developed; the first was an aperture feed, and the second was an end-fire slot array embedded in the corrugated surface.
