Elastic properties of SrTiO/sub 3/ under extreme conditions: a new high pressure ultrasonic measurement set-up

A new high pressure ultrasonic measurement set-up was used to estimate the elastic properties of strontium titanate. The pressure dependence of the three elastic constants of this cubic perovskite were deduced up to 4.5 GPa. The cubic-tetragonal phase transition occurred at 6 GPa and anomalies appea...

Summary:A new high pressure ultrasonic measurement set-up was used to estimate the elastic properties of strontium titanate. The pressure dependence of the three elastic constants of this cubic perovskite were deduced up to 4.5 GPa. The cubic-tetragonal phase transition occurred at 6 GPa and anomalies appeared in the acoustic transit times over 4.5 GPa. The equation of state and the acoustic mode Gruneisen parameters were deduced from the acoustic data. Our results were compared to those obtained by other groups using different techniques.
