Summary: | With high-performance IGBTs and advanced high frequency 1.2 Tesla soft magnetic alloys, switched mode power supplies (SMPS) can now be designed for the power range up to several 100 kW with a single transformer only. The weight-to-power ratio of transformers so far has reached a level of up to only 100 g/kW when using new nanocrystalline SiFe alloy VITROPERMTM at a switching frequency of typical 10-20 kHz. The result are quite compact and lightweight SMPS with excellent efficiency. |
