Summary:The automatic determination of urgent operational needs to accelerate the patient management for trauma patients brought to emergency services is important. In this study, a method to help the segmentation of liver, which is the most damaged organ due to its volume and location as a result of the abdominal trauma, is proposed. An abdominal trauma usually results in some density variations in liver due to the morphologic distortions and intra-abdominal free-liquid. This also negatively affects the accuracy of segmentation. Therefore, a new method based on the information of the liver location is proposed to determine the ribs and soft tissue on the right abdomen border. In this study a curve across the border of the ribs is determined as the right abdomen border. The results are analyzed by expert radiologists. It is determined that the error resulting from removal of the ribs and the soft tissue from the image is so low that does not affect the clinical conditions.
