Summary:With the rapid increase in demand for higher data traffic exponentially enhances the growth of optical networks offering seamless coverage, energy efficiency as well as cost effectiveness. In this work, passive optical network (PON) is integrated visible light communication (VLC) using fiber Bragg grading (FBG) sensors. FBG basics sensors are used to monitoring the health conditions of patients in hospitals, clinics, laboratories and smart homes. The results show that the proposed system utilizing FBG offers faithful 50km fiber and 9m VLC distance at 10/10Gbps per channel transmission rate. In addition, patient's current healthcare condition in terms of blood pressure and temperature can be monitored using FBG sensors with satisfactory performance at 625nm wavelength and 250C temperature. In addition, from the performance comparison of an integrated PON-VLC, system it is realized that w.r.t. other systems, the better performance of former than existing ones is obtained with longer transmission range and throughput.
