Summary:One of the primary research areas of the 3GPP standard has been supporting a range of positioning technologies to deliver precise and reliable user device locations. 3GPP has completed the first standard version of user device positioning based on new radio (NR) positioning signals in Release 16. After summarizing the 5G detail design of downlink~(DL) positioning reference signal (PRS), this paper presented the detection algorithm of DL PRS. According to a TDOA Time Difference of Arrival) positioning method, a localization calculation expression based on DL PRS is given. Finally, the detection rate of PRS under TDOA is evaluated with different system configurations. Further, detection performance of PRS under different configurations is evaluated, and corresponding positioning accuracy of NR PRS based on TDOA is also presented, to provide some insight on 5G positioning performance based on PRS.
