Summary:Contemporarily, the sustainable development of energy has become a hot topic of discussion among all walks of life, where green and clean energies have been advocated by the government. However, the focus of these energy sources is on energy creation and utilization instead of energy collection and storage. As a consequence, a lot of the clean energy that is created being wasted before it is used. Flywheel Energy Storage System (FES) is gradually showing its importance in the market as an efficient way to store energy due to its longer usage time, faster charging and discharging speed, and low pollution, which will be detailly demonstrated in this paper. Nevertheless, FES also faces the problem of high manufacturing cost that only has two times the storage capacity of lithium-ion batteries according to the analysis. Both of which have become the biggest obstacle to its development prospects. These results shed light on development of FESS and its current and future application prospects.
