Summary:In this paper, improved embedded algorithms for a six-port based frequency measurement system are presented which is used as a frequency reader for resonant surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensors. Due to limited resources on a microcontroller and necessarily higher update rates, new concepts for saving time and keeping the measurement precision as constant as possible are compared to each other and trade-offs are given. This paper concludes with an approach that reduces the number of entries of the previously used look-up table (LUT) by 95 % and thus promises to increase the update rate enormously.
