Summary:A new triterpenoid saponin named bredemeyeroside D has been isolated from Bredemeyera floribunda Willd. and its structure elucidated as 3‐O‐β‐D‐glucopyranosyl‐2β,3β,27‐trihydroxyolean‐12‐en‐23,28‐dioic acid 28‐O‐β‐D‐xylopyranosyl ‐ (1−4) ‐ α ‐ L ‐ rhamnopyranosyl ‐ (1→2) ‐ [α ‐ L ‐ rhamnopyranosyl ‐ (1→3)] ‐ β ‐ D ‐ fucopyranoside by means of MS, NMR and chemical evidences. In laboratory testings bredemeyeroside D showed a significant snake venom antidote activity.
