Tricarbonylchromium promoted tacticity variations in the Wurtz synthesis of poly(methylphenylsilane)

Polysilanes have a range of potential applications stemming from the unusual properties exhibited by the catenated silicon backbone. Despite several detractive features, the Wurtz synthesis using dichlorosilanes remains the most practical method of synthesizing polysiloxanes. However, the harsh reac...

Summary:Polysilanes have a range of potential applications stemming from the unusual properties exhibited by the catenated silicon backbone. Despite several detractive features, the Wurtz synthesis using dichlorosilanes remains the most practical method of synthesizing polysiloxanes. However, the harsh reaction conditions limit the use of monomers containing functional groups. Reports the successful use of tricarbonylchromium compounds to control the production of polymethylphenylsilane (PMPS).
