Summary:In this paper, we presented a two-dimensional cellular automata model for predicting fire spread of slash-and-burn. In order to clear land for fields or increase the soil fertility of established fields, farmers intentionally set fires. We simulated some standard ways of fire ignition which are adopted and executed based on principles experimentally derived in Japan using cellular automata models. In our models, we take into account such parameters as bush density, and the probability of fire-spread.
