Sub-picosecond optical switching in the near-infrared using negative index metamaterials

We study the ultrafast non-linear optical properties of a negative-index metamaterial. In particular, we achieve sub-picosecond optical switching allowing for terabits per second modulation at telecommunication wavelengths.
