Summary: | Each examination of electrospun nanofibers requires testing of these fibers by different experimental methods. The first information about the properties of electrospun nanofibers can be obtained with the help of imaging, including optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Nevertheless, in order to study mechanical and thermo- mechanical behavior of electrospun polymer nanofibers and also to describe their structural features, quantitative methods of analysis are required. The modern instrumentation arsenal for studies of different polymers offers a multitude of possibilities for examining electrospun fibers: Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), small and wide angle X-ray scattering (SAXS and WAXS), different types of spectroscopies, such as infrared (IR) and ultraviolet (UV) spectroscopies, polarized Raman spectroscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Measurement of the mechanical properties of the sample while controlling the ambient environment, such as temperature, humidity, can be easily implemented. |
