Ligand Radical Localization in a Nonsymmetric One-Electron Oxidized NiII Bis-phenoxide Complex

Catching the radical: Characterization of an oxidized nonsymmetric NiII–Salalen complex 2+ has demonstrated that the ligand radical is localized on the more electron‐rich aminophenolate, and can be described as a Class II intervalence complex. This is in contrast to the oxidized symmetric salen anal...

Summary:Catching the radical: Characterization of an oxidized nonsymmetric NiII–Salalen complex 2+ has demonstrated that the ligand radical is localized on the more electron‐rich aminophenolate, and can be described as a Class II intervalence complex. This is in contrast to the oxidized symmetric salen analogue 1+, in which the radical is fully delocalized across the ligand framework, a Class III species.
