Summary:In this paper, a Newborn Screening Information System using HL7 standard and state of the art XML Web service is proposed. We have rebuilt National Taiwan University Hospital Newborn Screening Laboratory's original stand-alone architecture and various heterogeneous systems, restructured a service-oriented architecture (SOA), and distributed architecture. Our new system not only integrates the newborn screening procedure between phlebotomy clinics, referral hospitals, and the screening center, but also reduces the burden of manual operation, speeds up the whole procedure and improves the accuracy of work, by thus ensuring the quality control of the newborn screening.
