Summary:A new foil handling technique using activation foil cassettes was developed for the measurement of lattice parameters in a PuO 2 -UO 2 fuel rod. The cassette is constituted of activation foils enveloped in thin (0.02 mm) Al foil which prevent Pu contamination and also work as fission-product-catcher foils, without causing any additional perturbation of the measuring medium. The experimental accuracy is found to be almost the same as for UO 2 fuel rods. The technique is adapted to application in a wide survey of lattice parameters for Pu fueled reactors.
