Summary:A compact low loss waveguide phase shifter design based on gap waveguide technology is presented in this work. In the proposed structure, no extra length is introduced to the waveguide section which restrains the phase shifter compactness and makes it possible to develop equal length waveguide differential phase shifters which are so applicable in realizing compact beamforming networks. From fabrication point of view, the proposed structure is very compatible with groove gap waveguide (GGW) technology which makes it a low loss and efficient solution for phase shifting at millimeter wave frequencies. A sample 90° equal length differential phase shifter based on the proposed idea is designed and simulated for 60GHz band. Results show proper impedance matching and low insertion loss (less than 0.3dB) as well as providing 90 ± 5° phase shift over the frequency range of 58 - 62.4 GHz.
