Summary:In order to overcome the impracticability of encrypting video sequence prior to compression as those done in most conventional schemes, a dynamic scrambling methodology configured with wavelength division multiple-passive optical network (WDM-PON) is proposed to implement a cross-layer video encryption scheme. Unlike the data encryption using traditional ciphers directly without compression consideration for format compliance, the proposed dynamic approach that changes in random the transmission timing of optical frames by using the chaotic sequence trigger optical switch generated logistic map. Hence, a partial encryption is implemented to apply in compression processing. The experimental results show that a series of randomness and aperiodicity is verified by using National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) testing suite. In addition, scrambling performance in terms of picture visual quality has verified the effectiveness of video encryption.
