Summary:CSMA/CA packet relay schemes can improve reliability of ITS V2V communication by compensating propagation loss and fading. However, their performance is affected by hidden terminal (HT) problem, especially when the density of vehicle stations is high. An improved scheme employing sectorized relay station has been proposed to mitigate the problem, and its effectiveness has been shown by some simulations. However, potential of the scheme has not been analyzed in detail nor optimized yet. In this paper, a theoretical model is proposed and performance of the packet relay assisted V2V communication with sectorized RS is analyzed. The accuracy of the proposed model is validated by simulations. Some suggestions to enhance the reliability of V2V communication are provided based on the results.
