Summary:In many practical industrial and military applications, systems are always requested to execute a sequence of missions. Some maintenance activities will be conducted during the mission break between two sequential missions. However, a general case is that only part of maintenance activities can be performed because of the limited resources. In this paper, a simulation approach based on Monte Carlo method is adopted to select the optimal maintenance activities with the objective of minimizing maintenance cost. Two kinds of missions are considered in this paper. The simulation procedures of assessing system availability under different maintenance schemes and mission types are proposed. Constraints including maintenance time and system availability are considered during maintenance optimization. Finally, an illustrative example is proposed to verify its effectiveness. The results show that the maintenance during mission can improve system availability.
