Summary:In this paper, we propose an estimation method of the bandwidth of digitally modulated signals, which is newly defined, based on the histogram of the signal spectrum. The estimation of bandwidth is widely used for efficient utilization of the limited radio frequency spectrum and the identification of emission characteristics. Generally, for the estimate to be uniform and reliable, the estimation process requires some specific conditions of an ideal channel environment and the previously known type of the emission. On the other hand, the proposed method does not require a priori knowledge about the modulation type or the received signal to noise power ratio. Experiment results with real generated signals are demonstrated to evaluate the performance of the proposed method under additive Gaussian noise channels.
