Summary: | Complying with grid code requirements for low voltage ride through is a challenge for generator sets (GenSets). The generator experiences a short circuit at the beginning of the fault and then goes through severe recovery processes. It is shown that in some cases grid voltage recovery induces 25% higher peak current that the short circuit peak current for a 4MVA 1500rpm synchronous generator. Short circuit decrement tests are used to calibrate the Matlab model parameters and then extensive numbers of simulations are carried out to show the impact of LVRT on a large synchronous generator. |
