Summary:A bus oriented centralized switch-node architecture to provide service to the three broad types of traffic viz., (1) Connection-oriented service for real time (RT) voice traffic, (2) Connection-less service for interactive data (ID) traffic, (3) Connection-oriented service for non-interactive data (NID) traffic, for multimedia environment in a LAN has been proposed. The paper discusses the performance aspects of the proposed media-access scheme and the centralised scheduling policy which have been analyzed through simulation in particular for ID and NID traffics alone.< >
