Summary:In this paper, we introduce a dual-band Wi-Fi applique antenna using the 5-mm thick automotive windshield glass as the substrate. In order to mitigate the strong surface-wave supported by the substrate at 5.8 GHz, a segmented ring was proposed to help the antenna radiate out of the substrate at 5.8 GHz while not degrading the performance at 2.4 GHz. Simulation and measurement results of the antenna were presented demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed surface-wave mitigating approach.
