Summary:In recent years, significant advances in AI technology, especially machine learning, have led to improve the performance of robot functions that would potentially replace human work in various applications. On the other hand, there are also cases in which AI is promoted unnecessarily without appropriate benefits. To solve this problem by clarifying the effectiveness of AI applied for service robots, the Investigation Committee of Service Robot AI Performance Standards was started in WG3 of the Robot Revolution & Industrial IoT Initiative (RRI) of Japan. The committee is working on (1) organizing the concept and forming a consensus on AI performance and (2) making a draft for the standard, towards the publication of JIS standard on AI performance of service robots and the proposal for ISO international standardization. We report the status of the studies.
