Summary:To reduce the harmonics of a saturable magnetically controlled reactor (MCR), an improved MCR (VMCR) with magnetic valves saturated by opposite dc currents has been proposed and its performance is analyzed by an analytical method and verified by the measurement. In this paper, the mechanism of the harmonics suppression of VMCR is analyzed in more detail by the numeric magnetic field analysis considering the magnetic flux leakage and precise magnetic nonlinearity. For this purpose, the performances of MCR and VMCR are compared with each other. It is shown that the harmonics can be reduced by using VMCR controlling the saturation degrees of the magnetic valves.
