Summary:This paper presents a new method to reduce current and voltage distortions for matrix converters in the overmodulation range. Analytical overmodulation conditions for both the input currents and the output voltages are derived. A carrier-based overmodulation method is then proposed to reduce the distortions by appropriately adjusting the reference voltages. Simulation results confirm that the distortions of input currents and output voltages can be improved by the proposed method.
