Summary:The paper provides a comprehensive review regarding the usage of SVC's along with intelligent techniques. With high inductive loads like machine, arc wielding, etc., being used in industries, the power factor variation and maintaining constant balance between active and reactive power is a very big challenge. The paper deals with power quality improvement by the use of FC-TCR compensator and to verify the effectiveness filters which are essential for eliminating harmonics are designed and simulated using MATLAB. For implementation in three phase power line model SVC was designed. In order to test the function regarding SVC operation and proposed control algorithm function, several test and simulation was carried out. MATLAB is used for the purpose of simulation and modelling of thyristor controlled reactor. Results obtained by simulation are presented. With the variation in firing angle, the current drawn from the TCR is kept varying. The simulation results are compared with the theoretical results. Intelligent control schemes like Fuzzy Inference System were utilized in the simulation for closed loop operation of the system.
