Summary:The importance of preventive maintenance has been recognized for the deterioration of highway bridges in recent years. When doing a close visual inspection with respect to the bridge reinforced concrete slabs, it is necessary to install a scaffold or use a bridge inspection vehicle, so it involves a large cost and traffic regulation. And also, it is concerned about raising the frequency of inspection in order to discover the degraded slabs as soon as possible. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct inspections within a limited budget and personnel range. On the other hand, the pot hole on the pavement of bridges affects the deterioration of the slabs by supplying rainwater to the slabs. Also, because it can be a direct cause of traffic accidents, it is checked through daily road patrol by the road administrators. In this study, a deterioration prediction model is proposed, which considered the occurrence situation of pot holes on the pavement in the probability of deterioration of the reinforced concrete slabs. Furthermore, the method of determining the optimal inspection interval of the reinforced concrete slabs in terms of the frequency of occurrence of pot holes is shown. Finally, the validity of the methodology presented in this paper is investigated with a case study dealing with the expressway in the real world.
