Summary:Beyond third generation (3 G) mobile communication systems are expected to support various multimedia services. A mobile user, under the constraint of his/her maximum transmission rate and power may launch multiple services simultaneously. In the uplink, the mobile station (MS) will need to allocate its limited resources (processing and transmit power, rate) among the user's different services, based on the user's preferences and the services' quality of service (QoS) requirements. In this paper, we derive an optimum algorithm to allocate uplink available rate and power to multimedia services. The algorithm maximizes user satisfaction under QoS, rate and power constraints.
