Summary: | A microstrip line-fed multi-slot antenna design is presented in this paper for operation in the 4G/LTE band. The slot antenna is comprised of three wide slot sections: one vertical slot, one horizontal slot, and a circular slot joining them. All three slots are excited with a transmission line, which generates multiple modes. These modes are combined to obtain a large bandwidth for covering most of the 4G/LTE band. Dual slots are excited with two feeds for polarization diversity. The radiation patterns are provided showing this behavior of the antenna. The slots are placed in the upper portion of a grounded dielectric substrate, leaving a large area available for electronic circuitry and other functions, such as, display, speakers, camera, etc., in modern smartphones. |
