Summary:Vehicle-roadside-vehicle relaying scheme has been studied as an effective means for improving the reliability of ITS V2V communication at intersection. However, hidden terminal (HT) problem that is caused by non-line-of-sight (NLOS) propagation at the intersection severely deteriorates packet reception at relay station (RS), which reduces the gain of relaying scheme. On the other hand, relaying increases air traffic, which results in interruption of packet transmission when the number of vehicles is large. In order to mitigate these two issues and achieve higher communication reliability, an improved packet payload combining relay scheme with sectorized RS (S-PCRL) is proposed. Simulated results show that the proposed scheme can effectively mitigate the issues and remarkably improve the reliability of ITS V2V communication at intersection environment with up to three hundreds of vehicles.
